Delhi Capitals mentor Kevin Pietersen leaves IPL 2025 midway after dream start, to return before MI clash; here’s why

After a dream start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign this year, Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor Kevin Pietersen has taken a short break and will rejoin the squad ahead of their match against Mumbai Indians (MI). DC have won all three matches so far in IPL 2025.

According to a TOI report, Kevin Pietersen, who captained England during his playing days and previously played for Delhi Capitals in the IPL, flew to the Maldives on Sunday for a short break.

Under the leadership of Axar Patel, DC defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 5. Their next match is on April 10 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. “Paradise loading in the Maldives. DND for a while!” wrote Kevin Pietersen on X with an aerial view of Maldives.

The report stated that Kevin Pietersen will miss the match against RCB but will return to the dugout against MI at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 13. The Englishman is known for his love for travel and with a five-day break between the two games, it was the best time for Kevin Pietersen to utilise it in the best possible way.

Delhi Capitals’ form in IPL 2025

Kevin Pietersen has bolstered the Delhi Capitals batting lineup, as evident in their first three games. Ashutosh Sharma sealed a win for DC from the jaws of defeat, while Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul excelled with the bat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and CSK. In fact, Abhishek Porel has also been among the runs in IPL 2025.
